RMI is not currently involved in the marketing of Continuity Software. However, we have had direct hands-on experience of selling and supporting twelve different products during the past fourteen years.  We are therefore well-placed to provide advice and guidance on what to look for and how to make software work for you.

  • We have down some research and drawn up a list of products that are currently being marketed in Europe.
  • We have also produced a Continuity Software Checklist that may help you to decide whether or not you want to use software and if so what to look for. There are some key differences between the RMI Checklist and ones that you may have come across in the past.  Most of the checklists in circulation were prepared originally by suppliers and are feature driven to put their products in the best light.  We started with our Health Check list of elements that need to be addressed in order to implement business continuity management and left some space for you to decide how best to tackle each element.
Continuity Software Products

With assistance from suppliers and distributors, we have put together a list of software products, including brief descriptions of them.  Please note that we in all cases the Supplier / Distributor has provided all the information and made all representations regarding individual products contained in the document, including the Product Category. We have not checked or verified this information and make no representations regarding its accuracy or completeness.

Checklist for Choosing Continuity Software

When it comes to choosing software, the one of the most important steps is to determine for yourself whether or not software will help you to achieve a business continuity objective.  Please don’t use a checklist of questions that had its origins as a ‘feature list’ of one of the best selling programs on the market. You want to implement business continuity, so that’s where you should start.

Business continuity can be broken down into the following areas:

  • Roles & Responsibilities
  • Threat Identification & Control
  • Business Impact Analysis
  • Continuity Strategy & Approach
  • Documented Plans & Procedures
  • Training, Rehearsals & Maintenance

Within each of these areas are a number of elements that need to be addressed.   They are the same elements used in the RMI HealthCheck.  We have produced a Continuity Software Checklist that requires you to decide how best to tackle each of the 69 elements of business continuity.  We suggest that you consider a number of approaches, including:

  • Workshops
  • Meetings
  • Brochures & publications
  • Presentation
  • Training
  • Intranet or Internet
  • Research

Decide if your chosen approach would benefit from the use of either generic software or continuity software. Remember that specialists originally designed the continuity software with a specific approach in mind.  It may not coincide with yours but on the other hand it may help you to get you to where you want to be without reinventing the wheel. By this stage you should have a very clear idea of what to look for in a specific package and be able to challenge the supplier on your terms.
